The relationship between my community partner and the citizens is very important for some citizens. Table of Plenty is a non-profit organization that serves food to the community. It serves food for anyone who is homeless or for those who can not afford food. The Table of Plenty is open to everyone. The Table of Plenty is important to the community and its citizens because without this organizations there are people that might not have food to eat. The Table of Plenty and the citizens do plenty interaction. The citizens who eat at the Table of Plenty are always welcomed and are always well served. Although Table of Plenty is a non profit organization and I do not believe that citizens can vote on changing Table of Plenty, the organization is always open to suggestions. Citizen participation can definitely affect Table of Plenty in both a positive and negative way. It is evident that if no one would come to eat at the Table of Plenty, there would be no need to serve the community. However, that is never the case. There is always people out in the streets who are homeless and have no food. Therefore, just how citizen participation is important to government and for democracy, the community and citizens is important for the Table of Plenty so we can serve even though Table of Plenty makes no profit.

Why is there tension between the state and local levels of government? In what ways is this tension healthy for our political system overall?
One main reason why there is tension between state and local governments is due to the fact that local governments want their states to provide them with adequate funding and ample policymaking discretion. Local government want more power because local official feel confident in their abilities to govern. Another reason for tension between state and local governments are state mandates. From the perspective of the state government, mandates are necessary to ensure that vital activities are performed and desirable goals are achieved. However, officials at the local level tend to see state mandates as unnecessary and often costly. Local governments also believe that they should be reimbursed for the expenses in carrying out mandates. Tension between local and state governments is not necessarily a negative connotation. Tension between governments in a way is healthy because both governments must compromise and find a solution to fix the issue. Meaning they have to work together to find the best solution.

I chose to volunteer at The Table of Plenty/Acterra due to the fact that both organizations help the community. The Table of Plenty definitely arose form a local need because a lot of people today do not have food to eat. Table of Plenty provides the community with food for those who can not afford it or don't have access. Acterra also arose from a local need due to the fact that we need to clean our Earth. For the organization Acterra, I believe that the local government did fill this need adequately. On the other hand, I believe the Table of Plenty is not government funded therefore they did not fill any needs. Acterra might be affected by Federal policies. However, I am not to certain about Table of Plenty.

Cover Letter
To whom it may concern,
My name is Alex Guillen-Torres; I am currently a full-time college student at Notre Dame de Namur University. I am studying Sociology/Criminal Justice in hopes to one day work with nonprofit organizations. Working with Table of Plenty/Acterra would provide me the experience and knowledge I am looking to gain to pursue my career.
I believe I am a qualified candidate for this position due to my previous volunteering experience. I have volunteered with children in a variety of settings such as schools and sports. I volunteered at CDA, a preschool in San Diego, watching over and engaging with children. I also coached children to play soccer in San Diego. I had many one-on-one sessions with them to help them excel. These experiences have shaped me to become a diligent volunteer. I am hard-working, dedicated, dependable, and always willing to learn.
Based on the schedule provided I am currently available Thursdays 5:30pm - 8:30pm. I plan on arriving on time with reliable transportation.
Thank you,
Alex Guillen-Torres
